In a hurry every morning? Between work, kids, and other commitments I think we all find ourselves rushing out the door in the morning. Please don’t skip breakfast! People think that skipping a meal will help them lose weight, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Start your day off with this healthy and super quick smoothie. During the work week I usually blend this up and take it with me on road.
Take the above ingredients and blend- simple and delicious! I promise that you can’t taste the spinach! Here’s the details:
1 cup almond milk
2 handfuls of spinach
1 tablespoon almond butter
1 tablespoon flax meal
1 frozen banana (make sure it is really ripe before freezing)
I always stay full until lunch with this drink. The sweetness of the banana prevents the need for added sugar. Feel free to add in some frozen berries as well. You can also sub the spinach for some kale or I’ve even used romaine. For comparison, lets look at a McDonalds smoothie. I cringe every morning on my way to work when I drive past McDonalds. The drive through line is wrapped around the building almost every day!
McDonalds Strawberry Banana Smoothie
Seems perfectly innocent – right? Let’s take a look at the ingredients:
Strawberry puree, banana puree, water, grape juice concentrate, clarified demineralized pineapple juice concentrate, sugar, contains less than 1% of the following: natural (botanical source) and artificial flavors, cellulose powder, pear juice concentrate, peach juice concentrate, xanthan gum, citric acid, pectin, colored with fruit and vegetable juice, ascorbic acid (preservative) Cultured Grade A reduced fat milk, sugar, whey protein concentrate, fructose, corn starch, gelatin
Yea- that’s just not necessary people – and it has 44 grams of sugar. Why spend money on fake food? Just make it at home. Your wallet and your body will be happy. Let me know if you try my recipe! Do you normally eat breakfast? If so, whats a typical breakfast for you?
